📐 Grading Rubrics — consistent marking criteria
A rubric is a reusable marking guide, not a student score. It tells every teacher exactly what evidence earns each level so different markers judge work consistently.
1 · Name the standard
Example: “Argumentative essay — use of evidence”. Pick subject and class.
2 · Write criteria
One measurable criterion per line: clear claim; relevant evidence; logical conclusion.
3 · Choose scale
For example 1–4: 1 Beginning, 2 Developing, 3 Proficient, 4 Exceeding.
How to apply it: Share/print the rubric before the task; mark each criterion using the chosen scale; record the resulting assignment/project score in the matching Report Card column. Rubric definitions do not automatically create marks.
Worked example
Skill: Science practical — observation. Criteria: records measurements accurately; uses correct units; identifies anomalies. Scale: 1–4. A learner with 3,4,3 has 10/12; convert according to the school’s project maximum before entering the official score.
